It’s been a cold start to the Spring season and if you have visited our farm you may have noticed that we have a wide variety of our own fresh picked produce available in our farm store. How does that happen when it’s cold outside? It starts with hard work and planning along with the help of our greenhouses and high tunnels!

We have been able to extend the season and feed more people with the use of our heated greenhouses that grow seedlings helping us get a jump start on the season. We have a total of seven greenhouses on our farm, six used in our production area located in the back of the farm and one greenhouse located off of our farm store market.  When you visit our farm store you are permitted to go cut fresh herbs from this green house and also check out our selection of plants available for sale. We keep our succulents and citrus plants in this cozy spot and it’s a fun place to visit.

We also utilize high tunnel growing to be able to produce food and make more of the growing season. We started with one high tunnel a few years ago and soon realized that use of high tunnels is a great benefit to help us produce healthy produce for longer periods of time thus feeding more people. High tunnels are a non-heated seasonal tunnel system that protects the crops from outdoor weather while keeping the temperature stable inside. The increased temperatures inside help plants grow which allows us to harvest these crops earlier and later into the season.

The next time you are on the hay wagon ride back by peaches, see if you can spot our greenhouses and high tunnels on our farm! We can’t wait to see you on our farm!
