We are proud to offer locally made and sourced products in our farm store to compliment our homegrown, sustainably grown produce and our other freshly prepared items. Eating locally is important to us on many levels and we know it is also important to you. Eating locally sourced food from small business owners not only lowers your carbon footprint, it also provides opportunities to support other small businesses. Offering small businesses floorspace in our market helps these like-minded businesses to get a start at selling products, aids in supporting the local economy and provides you with more choices for high quality products to feed your family. We are happy to feature many local, small business products in our farm store and will be highlighting them in our weekly blog.

This week we are profiling Jersey Barnfire Hot Sauces. Jersey Barnfire sauces are a small, local business out of Bloomfield, New Jersey owned and operated by Jersey local boys and childhood friends, John Sauchell (a former pastry chef) and Austin D’Almedia.  Jersey Barnfire produces a wide array of award winning gourmet hot sauces that can be used to enhance cooking, are beautiful for finishing dishes and are even great for desserts. The two business partners take pride in the origins of the company which began with their high school friendship when in 2012 they started making hot sauces with the fresh produce from Austin’s backyard garden. They had the support of many fans and before they knew it they were launching a commercial business in 2014. They first introduced their original hot sauce and then Black Garlic hot sauce which launched them into the marketplace.

Recently they have expanded into offering consulting services for other hot sauce companies sharing their expertise with product development, volume manufacturing along with supply chain. A typical day for these two high school friends consists of receiving ingredients, breaking down and weighing, cooking and blending all of the ingredients. Once a sauce has reached proper pH for acidity measure, it is ready to be bottled, capped, labeled, shrink bands and lot codes applied, then packaged to head to their next destination. Their gourmet sauces can be found in many fine establishments like Alstede Farms Market.

What makes Jersey Barnfire so special is their flavor profiles which they spend time in developing. They are known for containing just the right amount of heat with a balance of flavor which sets them apart from their competition. They farm and source locally as much as possible making them true to the slogan of Garden State in a bottle. Stop into our farm store today to pick up your own bottle of Jersey Barnfire hot sauce to support local and eat Jersey Fresh.
