Father’s Day is celebrated annually on the third Sunday in June as a way of honoring those who embrace the role of fatherhood. Names for fathers vary and include dad, father, pop, papa, poppa and so many more variations.  Historians say that the very first Father’s Day occurred on June 19, 1910 in Spokane Washington and that it took nearly 60 years to make the day officially recognized by making it a national holiday. It wasn’t until President Richard Nixon signed a law in 1972 that declared Father’s Day be celebrated annually and it has been a mainstay holiday ever since.

Take time to honor all these important people this year by spending time doing something fun together. We created a top five list of ideas to make this Father’s Day truly special and to start your own traditions this year. We hope you enjoy making special memories and sharing time together.

  1. Cook a homemade meal together to start a new tradition. Not only will you be spending time together shopping and preparing for the meal, you also have the double bonus of enjoying each other’s company at mealtime.
  2. Plan a family movie night where dad gets to choose the movie. Pair the movie with a 7th inning stretch of making homemade popcorn at intermission. Our homegrown popcorn takes minutes to make in the microwave and you can season it just the way dad likes it in a flash.
  3. Plant an herb garden for an ultimate reward. Herbs beautify any outdoor garden while also providing culinary advantages! A few ideas are to plant a pizza garden of oregano, parsley, basil along with tomato plants to enjoy a gift that keeps giving all season long.
  4. Make some easy and satisfying strawberry s’mores using a few simple ingredients. Dip washed and dried strawberries into marshmallow fluff then into crushed graham crackers. A drizzle of chocolate sauce makes for a perfect dessert or snack dad’s will love.
  5. Treat dad to our farm to table father day’s brunch to enjoy farm vibes, scenic views and a farm to table BBQ brunch. Spend the day picking strawberries and enjoying tractor drawn wagon rides and scenic views.

Wishing all the dads a very happy father’s day!

Best wishes from our farm kitchen to yours! xo
