Grilled Shishito Peppers with Honey-Cider Glaze

A simple summer side that lets Alstede Fresh’s homegrown peppers shine, with a sweet-savory glaze featuring local-market favorites: honey, apple cider, garlic, and onions.

Serves: 4
Prep: 10 minutes

Cook: 8–10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Alstede Fresh shishito peppers
  • ½ small Alstede Fresh onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves Alstede Fresh garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 2 tbsp Alstede Fresh honey
  • 2 tbsp apple cider
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of red pepper flakes

Directions

  1. Make the glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together honey, apple cider, apple cider vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper, and 1 tbsp olive oil.
  2. Heat the grill to medium-high. Toss shishito peppers and sliced onion with the remaining olive oil.
  3. Grill: Place peppers and onions directly on the grill. Cook for 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until the peppers are blistered and lightly charred and the onions are tender.
  4. Glaze: Brush the peppers and onions generously with the honey-cider mixture. Grill for another 1–2 minutes, turning once, until caramelized. Watch closely so the honey doesn’t burn.
  5. Serve: Transfer to a platter and drizzle with any remaining glaze. Serve warm.

Alstede Fresh Tip: Most shishito peppers are mild, but every so often you’ll get one with a little extra kick; it’s part of the fun!
