Sisters Rebekah Alstede Modery and Sarah J. Alstede are preparing to open Two Sisters Farm, a new family-friendly farm destination on a beautiful 100-acre property just off Schooley’s Mountain Road in Long Valley. The farm will welcome its first visitors beginning Saturday, September 19, 2026, offering families an opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, celebrate the season, and experience the simple traditions of fall.
The new venture represents a new chapter for the sisters, who are second-generation farmers and co-owners of their family’s Alstede Farms operation in nearby Chester.
The Alstede family has a long history of farming in the Schooley’s Mountain area. In 1983, the family purchased a small farm on Schooley’s Mountain, a property that has been permanently preserved and continues to be farmed today. More than four decades later, Rebekah and Sarah are establishing a farm of their own, beginning a new agricultural chapter on the Two Sisters Farm property.
For years, the 100-acre property was cared for and farmed by Liebenzell USA, including as the home of the Emmaus Farm Community Garden, which welcomes community members interested in planting and maintaining a garden from May through October. After acquiring the property earlier this year, the sisters quickly began putting the land to work, planting new apple trees and sowing pumpkins in preparation for their inaugural fall season.
As New Jersey Preserved Farmland, the property will remain dedicated to agriculture, ensuring that its rural character and agricultural future are protected for generations to come.
“We’re excited to create something that feels personal and welcoming, a place where families can slow down, spend time together, enjoy the beauty of the land, and make memories,” said Rebekah Alstede Modery. “This property has its own history, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to begin a new chapter here while keeping its future rooted in agriculture.”
For Sarah, the venture is an opportunity to share her family’s love of farming and the outdoors in a setting that offers a different experience from the sisters’ work at Alstede Farms.
“We want Two Sisters Farm to be a place where people feel welcome from the moment they arrive,” said Sarah J. Alstede. “Whether they come to pick a pumpkin, enjoy the mountain views, or simply spend a fall afternoon together, we hope they leave with memories they’ll want to make again year after year.”
A Legacy of Agriculture, Service and Community
The Two Sisters Farm property also carries a meaningful connection to Liebenzell USA, which has maintained a presence on Schooley’s Mountain for 85 years. Founded in the United States in 1941, Liebenzell USA has a longstanding mission of serving others through missionary work, humanitarian aid, education, discipleship, and community outreach.
That history resonates with Rebekah and Sarah, who see Two Sisters Farm as an opportunity to continue a tradition of stewardship, service, and community while honoring the agricultural heritage of the property.
