Why Eating in Season Matters
Eating seasonally isn’t just a delicious choice—it’s a healthy and environmentally responsible one. Seasonal produce is harvested at its peak, meaning it’s packed with more nutrients, flavor, and freshness than out-of-season alternatives that are shipped long distances. By eating what’s naturally ready in your region, you reduce your carbon footprint and support farming practices that are in harmony with the local environment.
In spring, our farm fields begin to flourish with crops like asparagus, rhubarb, radishes, leafy greens, herbs, and the first strawberries and sugar snap peas of the season. These vibrant foods help kickstart healthy habits after a long winter, offering a boost of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber.
CSA: More Than a Box of Produce
When you join our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, you’re doing more than filling your kitchen with fresh produce—you’re investing in local farming, preserving open space, and supporting a sustainable food system. CSA members help farms plan and grow more efficiently, while reaping the reward of the freshest produce available.
But the benefits go even deeper. You get to know where your food comes from—and the people who grow it. That connection helps you eat more mindfully, waste less, and feel good about the impact you’re making on your health and your community.
Growing for Good: Fighting Hunger with Fresh Food
This season, we’re proud to celebrate the work we’ve done to combat food insecurity. Earlier this year, we received the Outstanding Partnership Award from the Interfaith Food Pantry at their Harvesting Hope Gala, honoring our partnership and over 283,000 pounds of produce donated since 2007.
Every week during the growing season, we continue to donate farm-fresh produce, freshly pressed cider, and curated CSA shares to families in need. Working with partners like Table of Hope and Farmers Against Hunger, we’re bridging the gap between farm abundance and community need.
Your Support Makes a Difference
Whether you’re picking up your CSA share, visiting the farm market, or simply enjoying a day in the fields, you’re helping us “grow for good.” Together, we’re building stronger local food systems, improving access to healthy food, and keeping agriculture alive and thriving in our region.
Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food
When you support a local CSA, you’re not just buying produce—you’re building a relationship with the people who grow your food. At Alstede Farms, we take pride in being stewards of the land. We’re a multigenerational family farm guided by purpose and care, committed to regenerative practices that feed the soil, nurture wildlife habitats, and protect our land for future generations. We like to say we’re the ultimate tree huggers—farming with love, intention, and a long view.
Together, We Grow for Good
Food insecurity is a challenge we can tackle together—one share, one harvest, one family at a time. Thank you for choosing to eat seasonally, support local agriculture, and know your farmer. Thank you for being part of our community. Your support allows us to keep planting hope—one share, one harvest, one family at a time.
