Alstede Fresh Beet Smoothie

Ingredients:
• Half of raw beet, washed, peeled & grated, or chopped
• Two large leaves of beet greens, chopped (if available) may substitute spinach leaves instead
• 1 grated raw carrot (leave peel on)
• 1 handful of washed berries—optional (we prefer blueberries for this smoothie; however, any berry works).
• Half of an Alstede Fresh apple of choice chopped with skins on (you may chop the remaining apple and freeze for next smoothie)
• ½ frozen banana cut into chunks—may omit if desired.
• Apple Cider or Pomegranate Juice for liquid, as needed. You may choose to use water and a few ice cubes instead.
• Slice of fresh Ginger, remove peel with paring knife or slice of fresh lemon – both are optional however adding one or other brightens the taste and provides healthy nutrients.
• Alstede Farms honey to taste – if desired
• 1 teaspoon chia seeds, flax seeds, or hulled hemp hearts

Instructions:
Blend until smooth and serve in a tall glass.

Farm kitchen tip – the best part of this smoothie is that you can really use this as a vehicle for obtaining your fruits and vegetables quota for the day. Add any raw fruit you may have as leftovers such as pears, pineapples, and the like. It also works with fresh veggies you have on hand such as spinach. Create your own combination to enjoy, you can’t go wrong! If you prefer a smoothie with a lightly sweeter taste, you can add a little orange juice or a touch of raw honey or pure maple syrup to the blender.
