FIFA World Cup™ – Cantaloupe Agua Fresca
Our Hometown Farm, Global Roots series takes us to Mexico with a refreshing twist on a classic agua fresca. Popular throughout Mexico, these fruit-based drinks celebrate simple, seasonal ingredients, and this version puts ripe cantaloupe front and center.
Made with farm-fresh cantaloupe, orange juice, a touch of honey, and ice, it’s an easy way to enjoy the sweet flavor of the harvest while exploring the global roots of the foods we grow and share. This recipe is adaptable to watermelon in season.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup orange juice
1/2 cup peeled, seeded, and cubed cantaloupe
honey
1/2 cup ice
Instructions:
Place the juice, fruit, and honey in a blender. Blend on high speed for 30 seconds. Add ice and blend until smooth.
What is a Muskmelon? Muskmelon is the name for a variety of melon that is very much like cantaloupe. This is the variety that is grown in the US. There are 2 versions of the muskmelon; one is netted, and the other is not. The variety grown here at the farm does have the netted rind.
Cantaloupe is an excellent source of Vitamins A, B6, and C, and the mineral potassium. It’s also a very good source of dietary fiber, folate, niacin, pantothenic acid, and thiamine.
If you still have some watermelon, it is your chance to have the perfect summer fruit salad: cantaloupe and watermelon!
